Metallica. When someone says this word, every person has their own reaction. Whether you throw up the rock horns and yell in agreement, or scoff and declare your love for other bands, there's not a soul I know who's never heard of Metallica. Metallica was formed in 1981 when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an ad in a local newspaper in Los Angeles. The band's three primary members, who seem to stick together through thick and thin, consist of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Kirk Hammett. They have gone through a number of bassists including Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted, as well as Dave Mustaine in the role of lead guitarists during the band's early days. The spot is currently occupied by former Ozzy Osbourne band member, Robert Trujilo, who joined during the St. Anger era.

The fact that these guys have thrashed for as long as they have proves that, in the end, nothing can stop some kind of monster.
